Dr Ishmael Mohlabi
Dr Mohlabi is a Specialist in General Paediatrics, with a special interest in Neonatology (care of the newborn). He completed his undergraduate training in 1995 at the University of Cape Town (UCT), after which he worked as a medical officer at a number of the teaching hospitals attached to UCT and Groote Schuur Hospital. In 2000 he commenced specialist training in paediatrics at the renowned Red Cross Children’s Hospital in Cape Town, which he completed in early 2004.
To broaden his horizons, Dr Mohlabi also worked in the United Kingdom as a paediatrician. He did a stint at the Royal Hospital for Sick Children in Edinburgh Scotland followed by a period at NHS Dorset in England.
Upon his return home he joined Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital (part of Wits University Teaching Hospitals) where he worked as a consultant paediatrician in Neonatology for nearly 3 years.
In 2007 he joined the private sector and established a paediatric practice at Life Fourways Hospital. After building a very successful practice he transferred to the newly-established Netcare Pinehaven Hospital in Mogale City on the West Rand in 2015, in order to work closer to home.
Apart from his love for children, which sparked his decision to study paediatrics, Dr Mohlabi loves spending quality time with his family. He is an ardent jazz aficionado and related music genres; he enjoys reading, baking, travel, and is also a keen photography enthusiast.
For Dr Mohlabi health is not simply the absence of disease and illness, he believes passionately in a holistic approach to children’s healthcare, well-being and development.
